Google announced it is opening a location in Phoenix, Arizona, where it will locate 600 engineering and support jobs. Some wondered whether Google could be planning an auction site to rival eBay. But most speculation centers on a Google payment service that could compete with PayPal. According to Mike Sunnucks, a reporter with The Business Journal in Phoenix, Google was tight-lipped about its plans for the facility, but said Phoenix is known as a back-office to support payment services. Rumors of a Google online payment service began when ChannelAdvisor's CEO made reference to a Google Wallet payment service at a conference in June. ###
AuctionShark, which is a multi-site shopping search tool, added some new sites to its service. AuctionShark allows users to search across eBay, Yahoo Auctions, Overstock Auctions and Amazon. Now, searches will include results from uBid, Buy.com, eCost, half.com and Overstock.com. ###
