The "Seamless" backdrop holds a special place in the world of product photography. Many of the advertisements that you see in magazines and on television are shot against a seamless background. The Seamless eliminates hard shadows that are created where the vertical part of the background meets the horizontal part. These shadows can be distracting, and divert attention from the most important thing in the photograph: The Product.
As an online seller, you're in the business of making your products look as good as possible.
Here's an easy and inexpensive way to do just that. Start with a cardboard box large enough to use as a support for your backdrop. This one is 21"x25"
Light matte construction paper will be used as your interchangeable seamless backgrounds. These sheets are 28" x 22"
With a razor knife, cut the two long sides of the cardboard box until you have a flat piece.
Open up the cardboard box so that you have a wall and floor.
This is how your cardboard frame should look.
With spring-type clothespins, clip the sheet of construction paper to the vertical side of the cardboard frame on both sides
Let the construction paper follow the contour of the cardboard box, without creating a crease.
Clip the bottom corners of the construction paper to the cardboard.
Place the item to be photographed near the front of the seamless.
Keep as much distance as possible between the item and the background.
Using these instructions, you'll get a nice clean shot using a white background or any color you choose.
You'll get the best results using colors that make your products stand out.
And that's how you make your own seamless - for about five dollars. There are also products on the market that provide backgrounds for taking pictures.
